DSLR CAMERA LENSES are lenses designed for DSLR cameras. You can choose from wide-angle, portrait, standard focal length, and telephoto lenses. These lenses allow photographers to create professional, high-quality photos, expand their creative possibilities, and explore different photography styles.

TYPES OF DSLR CAMERA LENSES:

1) WIDE-ANGLE LENSES are DSLR camera lenses with a wide focal length range, capable of capturing a large visible area. Wide-angle lenses have a small focal length value, typically ranging from about 10mm to 35mm (when referring to APS-C sensor size), though this may vary depending on the camera type. The main feature of wide-angle lenses is their ability to capture a broad field of view from one side to the other. This makes them ideal for landscapes, interiors, architecture, and similar photography where you want to capture many details and spaces.

2) TELEPHOTO LENSES are camera lenses characterized by a long focal length range, allowing you to photograph subjects far from the shooting location without physically moving closer. Telephoto lenses have a greater focal length range than standard or wide-angle lenses, often starting from around 70mm (for full-frame cameras) and extending to 300mm, 400mm, or even 600mm or more.

3) PORTRAIT LENSES are typically telephoto lenses with a wide aperture. The telephoto focal length provides aesthetic proportions for portraits (wide-angle lenses tend to distort them), while a wide aperture helps blur the background behind the subject. Whether the focal length is variable or fixed doesn't matter, but lenses with wider apertures are often prime lenses.

4) STANDARD FOCAL LENGTH LENSES are lenses with a focal length range that lies in the middle ground between wide-angle and telephoto lenses. These lenses come in various focal length options but are typically in the range of 35mm to 85mm (when referring to full-frame cameras).

MAIN LENS SPECIFICATIONS (FOR APS-C SENSORS):

  • Focal length, measured in millimeters (mm)

Lenses around 12-18mm are suitable for landscapes and architecture.
Lenses around 18-50mm are great for reportage.
Lenses around 30-50mm are ideal for portraits.
Lenses around 100-300mm (and more) are good for "photo hunting."

Zoom lenses have adjustable focal lengths, while prime lenses have fixed focal lengths.

  • Aperture, indicating the lens’s light transmission

Aperture is marked as f/4 or F4 or 1:4, for example.
Lenses with f/1.4 ... f/2.8 are called "bright." They allow a lot of light and create background blur. Telephoto lenses with an f/4 aperture are considered very bright and blur effectively.

  • Minimum focusing distance or maximum magnification

This parameter is essential for macro photography. The distance should be less than 35 cm, with macro magnification at 1:1.

  • Lens mount

Canon, Nikon, Sony, and Pentax produce lenses only for their cameras. Tamron, Sigma, Tokina, and other independent manufacturers create lenses compatible with various cameras (depending on the mount).

Usually, the first DSLR camera is purchased with an 18-55mm or 18-105mm lens. These are relatively versatile but affordable lenses. To capture beautiful portraits, it’s recommended to buy a bright 30-50mm portrait lens. Such a lens has a fixed focal length that cannot be adjusted.

DSLR camera lenses are valuable for professional photographers and enthusiasts seeking to achieve the highest-quality photos and diversify their creative projects. These lenses allow for experimentation with perspective, focus, and composition to achieve impressive visual results.
